Synopsis: A classic ride, Cut Yer Bars is the perfect spot for the novice to experience some of the rugged single-track that Whistler is known for. This is not to say that there are no challenges for the experienced rider, on the contrary, but these trails can be accessed without long travel times to and from the trailhead and without massive lung burning climbs to a good descent. The area is also densely packed with trails, so a comparatively small area can provide lot of riding.
Trailhead Access: From the Village, ride north on Highway 99 for about 1 km, to the first set of lights . At the lights, turn left onto Lorimer Road and ride past the ambulance station to the first intersection. At the corner of Lorimer and Nesters Rd. you will find a daycare center on one corner, and directly across the street a single-track should be visible beside the hydro box, climbing up through a rocky bluff and into the forest.
The Ride: There is no practical way to guide a rider through this trail system, it is packed far too densely with trails. Suffice to say that from the corner of Lorimer and Nester's at least three different single-tracks climb up into a maze of trails that descend three different sides of the hill, as well as some that loop back on themselves. After descending you may find yourself on the playing fields of Myrtle Philips School; ride past the school and you will be on Lorimer Rd. once more. You may also find yourself under the power lines; the hydro road should bring you out to the highway. Or, you may find yourself arriving at the back of the Public Works yard; this will also take you back to the highway. Take some time and explore, as there many delights to be had in this wonderful area.
Riding Time: 20 minutes to 1&1/2 hours, depending on how many times you go back for more.
