Synopsis: The area known as the Cheekeye Fan lies directly across the highway from the turnoff to Alice Lake Provincial Park. This densely wooded alluvial fan is fairly flat, but is filled with some beautiful singletrack. The area is clear almost year-round, and makes for excellent early season riding.
Trailhead Access: From Whistler, drive south on Highway 99 for about 47 km to the Alice Lake turnoff (9.5 km norht from Squamish). The turnoff is well marked with blue and white Provincial Park signs. Turn left off the highway onto the Squamish Valley Road and and park in the dirt lot immediatly on your right. The trails begin just down the Squamish Valley Rd, on both sides of the road.
The Ride: The Cheekeye Fan is a maze of singletrack that fills the block of woods that runs beside the highway from the Squamish Valley Rd right down to the Brackendale turn-off. Most of the riding is moderatly technical, with lots of log hops, roots, ramps and teetertoters. The trails can be fit together in a variety of loops, and one can easily ride for a couple of hours without repeating yourself.
On the other side of the Squamish Valley Rd more singletrack circles the dump, with some nice trials areas up on the granite domes. The entire area makes for great early season riding, due to the lack of big climbs!
Energetic riders can cross the highway and head up to Alice Lake Provincial Park for more riding.
Riding Time: Up to three hours, depending on the loops ridden and their order.
