Synopsis: This network of singletrack and logging roads winds around two lakes on Brohm Ridge, just off of Highway 99. The trails around Brohm Lake are wider and faster, similar to the Whistler Interpretive Forest, while the singletrack near Cat Lake is more technical.
Trailhead Access: From Squamish, drive north on Highway 99 for about 12 km to a small parking lot on the west side of the highway. If you are driving from Whistler, the parking lot lies some 45 km south of the town centre. The Brohm Lake trails begin right at the parking lot; the Cat Lake trailhead is about 1 km north of the parking lot on the east side of the highway, marked as the Cheekeye Forest Service Road.
The Ride: From the Brohm Lake parking lot a logging road climbs up into the Interpretive Forest, where a network of trails has been built. This area is well marked, with maps posted. The Alder Trail, High Trail and Bridge Trail are all multi-use, while others, such as the Cheakamus Loop Trail, are posted as walking trails. When you have explored the Interpretive Forest to your satisfaction, head back to the highway and ride up to the Cheekeye Forest Service Road, the start of the Cat Lake trails.
Ride up the Cheekeye Road, through the intersection with the 'Brohm Line', until you see the 2 km marker. Just before the marker take the old roadbed that branches to the right. As you ride this trail there are trails (cut by local motorcyclists) that drop off to the right; they form loops under the power lines and follow the creek back towards the highway. Pick one and explore or continue straight to Cat Lake, where there is a trail which circles the lake. After looping the lake, follow the main road up, past the hydro lines to the second switchback. Follow the trail (marked, "Here Kitty Kitty") that leads straight off the corner to a couple of sweet trails that drop back to Cat Lake. This area contains a lot of singletrack and doubletracks to explore, so have fun.
Riding Time: Most of Brohm Lake can be ridden in an hour; the Cat Lake area can keep you busy for two more.
